Natural therapy for ringworm
What is Ringworm?
Ringworm is a fungal infection that can be found in the
top layer of the skin or on the scalp. Ringworm that is
found on the scalp can cause a flaky patch of baldness
to develop. If ringworm has infected the skin, it will
cause a reddish rash that forms a ring that may itch and
burns. The area infected may be dry and scaly, or
sometimes moist and crusty. Ringworm infection may
affect not just humans but even dogs and cats. The
infection may be acquired from infected children or from
infected pets. To treat it, you may choose a natural
therapy for ringworm.
Cause
Ringworm spreads through direct contact with the skin of
the infected human or animal. This fungus also spreads
indirectly through contact with things that belong to
the infected patient, such as combs and clothing.
Surfaces may also be contaminated by the fungus. If the
patch of the infected area starts to shrink, the fungus
is no longer present. The infection occurs on the body,
scalp, feet and nails.
In children, ringworm infection of the scalp is very
common due to absence of protective fatty acids on the
scalp. It spreads deeper on the skin and extends to the
hair roots and up along the hair. Infected hair roots
leave a bald spot on the scalp. Affected area on the
body appears reddish, round or oval with scaly rings and
a clean space at the center and itchy. If not treated,
the infection becomes chronic and very difficult to get
rid of.
Natural Therapy
There are many remedies or natural therapy for ringworm
available which you may find around your home. Neem oil,
which can be found in the Neem tree, is used as herbal
remedy for ringworm. Holy basil, also known as tulsi or
sacred basil, is used by pounding its leaves and
applying these on the infected area. Even turmeric
leaves are often used to treat ringworm.
Dieting
Natural diets are also recommended to battle ringworm.
An anti-ringworm diet should contain plenty of fresh
vegetable juices, fresh fruit juices, fresh salads and
fresh fruits. Patients must also avoid consuming tinned
and packed foods. Take plenty of rice and fresh fish.
Avoidance of coffee, tea and alcohol consumption is
advised. The patient must get as much as fresh air as
possible. Drinking plenty of water and taking baths
twice in a day also help to minimize the skin
irritation. Putting coconut oil on the infected part and
bathing in the sun is also helpful.
Sanitize
Good hand washing methods should be practiced both by
the infected and uninfected. Do not allow sharing of
personal items such as hair care products, towels and
clothing. Drying of the skin thoroughly after washing is
essential. Sanitizing personal properties is also
required.
It is very easy to treat ringworms if necessary
precautions are taken seriously and if you use a natural
therapy for ringworm.
